Kids' Blog

Sophie, 8

I love OSCARS because I get to play with my friends and do interesting things.

Today, we made characters out of ice lolly sticks and decorated them. I really enjoyed acting out a song and dancing to the pirate theme.

Our facilities

Set in the grounds of Frampton Cotterell C of E School, OSCARS offers plenty of green space for the children to explore when the weather is fine. Indoors, our 72m2 building houses plenty of room to enjoy games, arts and crafts or other educational activities.

We invite you to book a site visit with us by clicking here.

Facilities

OSCARS is extremely fortunate to be situated within the lovely grounds of Frampton Cotterell C of E Primary. Our children have access to climbing areas, a mud kitchen, playgrounds and fields.

On rainy days, or just for those who prefer to play indoors, children can keep busy with Lego, Knex, Jovo, jigsaws, board games and card games or have fun with role play and dressing up. There is a television and DVDs as well as plenty of books to read, or the children might even want to turn on a games console...

For our older OSCARS children, we have The Hang Out! Catering to Years 4, 5 and 6, it features new equipment and features specially requested by this age group.

Arty children will enjoy drawing and colouring while the craft box offers up hours of creative enjoyment. Ahead of special occasions or festivals, our staff will encourage the children to create according to themes.

New starters

We are very excited to be welcoming a new batch of Reception children in September 2022. All our staff are looking forward to meeting the newcomers. Parents will shortly receive a handbook for further information on OSCARS.

Even more exciting, is that for the first time, this year we are offering wrap around care for Reception children during the initial settling in weeks. Any FCCE Reception child may attend (subject to availability), even those  who will not regularly attend OSCARS during term time. Please contact us on info@oscarschildcare.org.uk to find out more or visit our stand during the information evening for Reception 2022 parents/carers on the 28th June.

Christmas Jumper Jumble

Have your children grown out of their Christmas jumpers?

Of course they have!

Don’t let them go to waste.

Donate your outgrown Christmas jumpers to Oscars and then come to our jumble sale to find (nearly) new ones. All proceeds go to Oscars.

Previously loved jumpers can be handed in at Oscars. Other Christmas themed clothing are also welcome!

Jackson, 6

I love going to OSCARS both before and after school and in the holidays.

The staff always look after us and make us nice snacks and let us play football.

Vacancies

OSCARS is getting ready for a bumper Summer Holiday Playscheme and we're staffing up to ensure the best experience for all the children who attend. If you are passionate about childcare and looking for a new role, please request further information on the vacancies we currently have for a variety of playworker roles here

We're also looking for a superstar leader to head up the team who keep OSCARS the fun and enjoyable place it is. Working a full-time role on site, the Manager will be tasked with the day-to-day running of OSCARS on behalf of the trustees. We are seeking an enthusiastic, Level 3 Childcare qualified (or similar) individual with at least a year of management experience. If you love children, are highly-organised and proactive, please apply here

Latest News & Information

OSCARS has recently updated its facilities to cater to a larger number of children.

The Hang Out is a new club within OSCARS, which aims to cater to Year 4, 5 and Year 6 pupils in particular. Designed around feedback from the children themselves, The Hang Out will offer new outdoor equipment, snacks which children write the menu for as well as mental health and well-being workshops. The group will be set up in the library every evening from September. Please click here for more information and to book.

Oscars also recently donated funds to FCCE Primary towards brand new play equipment in the school grounds. The children love to adventure and explore on this new addition to the playground!

Info for New Starters

OSCARS has welcomed a number of new starters to the club since Monday 6 September.

Information packs have been sent out to parents via email with all the essential details but please do contact us if you did not receive this information.

For new and returning parents, you'll find a little refresher on what there is to do at OSCARS here which you could also read through with your child to prepare / remind them - or point them towards our Kids Handbook!

We still have a few spaces available for our October Holiday Scheme. For more details and to book, please click here

Our Summer Holiday Scheme was a resounding success! All our children had an amazing time, as you can see from the pictures alongside.

A reminder that our Holiday Club is available to all children, not just those attending FCCE Primary.

Additional Information

Please do note that on some days there is an additional charge for the activity on offer. This will be on magic booking and will be added to your booking. Once you have booked your sessions you will need to pay in advance for the sessions.

Although we have set activities on each day, we will always have the ‘usual’ activities on offer as well: football, colouring, outdoor play, construction etc. We will always make sure there is something that the children want to do!

Please note that all activities are subject to change in the case of unforseen circumstances.

Breakfast is available until 8.15am. On all days, parents are requested to send in the following items:

  • water bottle
  • change of clothes
  • sun hat
  • sun cream
  • sensible shoes
  • packed lunch
  • warm clothes if cold/wet

COVID POLICY: If your child is showing any symptoms, please do NOT send them to club. We would encourage the use of lateral flow tests regularly and getting a PCR test should there be any symptoms. We will need to send your child home if we suspect covid symptoms. We ask that if your child receives a positive test that you let us know ASAP. We will then support in identifying those who are close contacts. We do have a few vulnerable children attending OSCARS so this is really important. All staff will continue to do lateral flow tests twice a week.

Please let us know if you have any additional questions and we will gladly try to answer them.

Covid Update

In light of rising cases of Coronavirus both in schools and in England as a whole, OSCARS will be following the same guidance as FCCE as a school. This being, if anyone in your household tests positive, or has symptoms, you should keep your child at home and not send them in to OSCARS. This applies to both our after school care and the October Playscheme. Children displaying symptoms will be sent home and asked to take a PCR.

Numbers are still low for the playscheme so there will be no bubbles, for now, although this will be constantly reviewed. Children are advised to bring in jackets and warm clothing as we will remain outside as much as possible. Please keep us informed in regards to your child's attendance or non-attendance on info@oscarschildcare.org.uk

Covid Update

OSCARS continues to follow the same guidance as FCCE as a school. This being, whilst the legal requirement around isolation has changed the guidance from Public Health England around self-isolation remains in place. Children who are unwell should not attend OSCARS or play scheme and should remain at home until their acute symptoms resolve.

We are not operating bubbles but this is constantly reviewed. Please ensure your children have jackets and warm clothing as we remain outside as much as possible. Please keep us informed in regards to your child's attendance or non-attendance on info@oscarschildcare.org.uk
